American Flagg (2nd series.) ran for 12 issues - #1 May 1988 - #12 April 1989. It's 2033 and Chicago, like the rest of the civilized world, has hit the skids. Since 1996, 'The Year of the Domino,' when nations, religions and networks collapsed in a sociopolitical free-for-all, the USA has been governed from Mars by the Plex, a corporate mega-cartel using bread and circus television programming to make the most profit from the decline of western civilization.
Someone had to put it all back together - and Reuben Flagg was the man stuck with the job. Conscripted into the Plexus rangers when his television career abruptly ended, the Mars born actor was shipped Earthside to the Chicago Plexmall to maintain the Plex's status quo.
To hell with the status quo! With the help of Raul, a talking cat, Amanda Krieger, a video and electronics whiz, and Jules Folquet, a seven foot zen basketball warrior, Flagg prevented the annihilation of Chicago by a racist underground organization, and monkey-wrenched the Plex's attempted sale of Illinois to the Brazilian Union of Americas. Ultimately, Flagg returned to Mars, gained independence for Illinois, intending to initiate democratic reform. But we all know which road is paved with good intentions ... Story Title: Red Highlights and Permanent Waves (Part Three).
