Miss Read is the Pen Name of - Dora Jessie Saint MBE (Nee. Shafe) - Born: 17th April 1913, South Norwood, London - Died: 7th April 2012 (98), Shefford Woodlands, Berkshire. 'I began to look forward to an easier way of life, and had comforted myself with all sorts of future plans when I should have the leisure to enjoy them.' Having bidden farewell to her beloved Fairacre School and its pupils, Miss Read settles down to what she anticipates will be a relaxing and calm retirement. She couldn't have been more wrong!
Instead she finds herself as busy and in demand as ever: on holiday in Florence, supply teaching during a flu epidemic, helping with church affairs, offering a kindly ear to her neighbours and fending off a charmingly persistent suitor.
As village life goes on, a chance remark from a friend leads Miss Read to discover a new talent, opening up an exciting chapter in her life. Titles in the 'Fairacre' series.
