The 'Read Every Day Series' was a deservedly popular series of books providing good readable stories in clear type and illustrated with line drawings throughout. Mr Carruthers comes to dig for Roman remains near Dunochty, by the sea in Scotland. At Dunochty Mr Carruthers says he is very lucky to find many ancient coins, and a lot of pottery - enough to fill several large cases for Sandy the Carrier to carry away in his big blue lorry. But are the large cases really full of Roman remains? Sandy doesn't think so; neither do Alex his nephew and another boy, Andrew. There's plenty of fun and excitement for Sandy and his friends as they find out more about Mr. Carruthers and the 'Roman remains'.
